Short Book Rant: The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials Book 3) By Phillip Pullman

So everyone is aware:

These two creatures are not the same. I don’t care if the “scientist” character confuses them.

More importantly:

Even if the dragonfly is the same size as the seagull, hopefully you can tell that the two are not the same shape. Therefore a line should never been uttered that looks anything like:

At first he thought it was a seagull, but on closer inspection realised it was a dragonfly.

While there were other things I didn’t like, this bothers me more than it should.


Someone with two bio degrees but who could have still been able to tell you a dragonfly doesn’t look like a seagull in 1st grade.
